Athletic Hall of Fame
2011 Inductees
Wesleyville, Iroquois and Lawrence Park Hall of Fame inductees are selected by the WILP Board of Directors from a roster of nominations received by the board. Nominations were recognized from community citizens, former athletes, previous coaches and alumni as well as members of the board.
All inductees must have been out of school a minimum of ten years. They must have distinguished themselves or have made a significant impact on athletes in one of the three schools. These graduates must have demonstrated good citizenship in high school and beyond. They will continue to serve as role models for our current school students.

Jon Kolb

Jon was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He earned All-State honors during his senior year at Owasso High School. He received a scholarship to Oklahoma State University where he earned all Big-Eight honors in both 1967 and 1968. He was named All-American in 1968 and was drafted in the third round; the 56th pick overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969.
In 13 seasons with the Steelers, Jon started 177 games and helped the team win four Super Bowls. He was named ALL-AFC 1st team and All-Pro 2nd team (UPI) in 1975. He was NEA 1st-Team All-Pro in 1979. He was selected to the Steelers 50th anniversary All-Time team in 1982. He was again honored on the Steelers 75th anniversary All-Time team in 2007. During his playing career he was widely regarded as one of the strongest men in the NFL. He was 4th Place in the World’s strongest man contest in 1978 & 1979. In 1981 he won 1st place in the NFL strongest man competition.
At the conclusion of his playing career, he traded his helmet for a whistle and worked for the Steelers in several capacities from 1982 – 1992. He coached defensive line from 1982 through 1986 and tight ends from 1988 through 1992. He was the strength and conditioning coach as well from 1982 to 1992.
Upon the completion of his NFL career, Jon earned a masters degree in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University. He also coached football at Grove City College where he was the defensive coordinator for six of the seven years he was on the staff.
Jon was selected to the Western Pennsylvania Hall of Fame in 1982 and inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
Today Jon is very involved with speaking engagements as the director of ministry for Christian Sports International. Jon and his wife Deborah live in Hermitage, PA. They have three sons
